Here are some watercolour sketches done on a walking trip to the Western Lakes, Cumbria in October 2012.
Art and the Lake District are made for each other!
The weather was amazing and perfect for both walking and painting – not a drop of rain all week! A stunning location at any time of year, but particularly stunning in early autumn with the leaves starting to turn and the sun low in the sky. All very conducive from an artistic point of view.

just to prove I really was there!
Come and look at beautiful original paintings of Devon at Madryn Studio. You will see works by Richard Thorpe and other artists displayed on the walls of this lovely gallery in Combeinteignhead, within easy reach Newton Abbot, Teignmouth and Torbay.
An excellent framing service is also available, the cheapest around. So bring your cherished photo, child’s art, holiday memento, certificate, drawing, postcard, painting etc etc and have it enhanced with a new frame.
Professional and friendly advice is on hand, so don’t worry if you haven’t a clue what kind of frame you are looking for – there are lots of samples to see here. And make a day of it by ‘doing lunch’ at either the Wild Goose in the village or Coombe Cellars on the river, both within easy staggering distance.
A warm welcome awaits you at Madryn!
